Blueberry grower in Overijssel active in PR with national Open Day
Although the concentration of blueberries is in Limburg, there are also growers outside this area in the Netherlands, actively promoting their blueberries. The national Open Day that took place on July 13 is an important event in this. This was organized by Simply The Bes, the collective in which blue berry growers from all over the Netherlands are united.
abbGrowers, grower, sorter and packer of blueberries, endorses the importance of promoting the blueberry and is pleased with the initiative of Simply the Bes. “Abbgrowers is a company with roots in Limburg and appreciates all the more that growers outside this southern region are also committed to promoting the blueberries. The more people discover how tasty and healthy this berry is, the better. "
Similarly, blueberry grower Gerard Vrielink from the Greftenhoeve in Vriezenveen. Gerard has an acreage of 13 hectares. "We have had just over 300 visitors this year during the open day," says Gerard enthusiastically. “Among them were tourists but also people from the neighborhood who are curious about our company. We have organized three fun and educational tours to explain the whole blueberry story. The local beekeeper was a nice addition, with his explanation of the importance of the good functioning of the bees.
In addition to the blueberry growing, at our company during the season, visitors can also pick blueberries on their own. Where also black, red and gooseberries can be picked. We also make our own blueberry jam and it is for sale in our farm shop.
Bringing attention to the product, the blueberry, is the most important motivation for us to participate in this open day. Not so much to promote our own company, because that is going well, "Gerard concludes his story.
